I am not big on the aromatics at this point so most
of the tobaccos on this page are non-aromatics . Also I do a
bit of research before buying any Baccy's so bad reviews here
are few and far between.
My ratings are from 1 - 4 Pipes

UpDated
After a year
or so of pipe smoking. I have tried many more tobaccos than
I have reviewed here.
I do not smoke anything with cavendish in it any more. I looked
thru the list and I only smoke McClelland Bulk No.5110
and Samuel
Gawith Squadron
Leader still that are on my list.
But also I have fallen into a expensive
habit, I am smoking
G. L. Pease tobaccos almost extensively now Samarra, Odyssey,
Ravens Wing, Renaissance and
Caravan. They have been my staple for almost 6 months now. Samarra
is my favorite.

Sail Regular Ready Rubbed
: This was the first tobacco I bought with my first pipe.
I like it quite a bit and am still buying it today. It starts out
pretty light and gains strength as you get farther down. The room
aroma is slightly sweet and a bit musty.
Sail regular is a well balanced blend.
Burley and Virginia tobaccos in perfect harmony are the basis, enriched
by a selection of Oriental and Brazilian tobaccos.

St. Bruno Ready Rubbed
: I like this one as well and am still buying it. The smell
in the pouch is fantastic like a slightly fermented dry red wine.
It has a bit of a tangy taste and a great old time room aroma. It
has quite a bit of nicotine punch. Some say you should dedicate
a pipe for this one.
This is a Blend of Virginia and other selected
tobaccos. Slow burning and cool with a pleasant aroma.

Erinmore Flake : I
like this one but is is not for the new smoker I believe as it has
some kick. I have found it depends on the pipe you smoke it in.
When you open the tin you smell an strong sort of fruity (maybe
apricot) smell. It looks like small leather belts and takes a bit
of work to rub it out. It gives me hick ups at times.
A superb blend of premium Virginia leaf
topped with a secret recipe and aged under pressure to marry the
flavors. The aged cake is then sliced thin and packaged. Can be
rubbed to suit any taste. Medium in strength with a refreshing aroma.
A cool clean burning all-day smoke.

Dunhill Light Flake :
This is one of my favorites but hard to find locally in Canada.
I opened the tin to find a sweet sort of mild alcohol aroma. It
is not as preformed as the Erimore Flake and rubs out very easily.
At first light it seems you are getting nothing at all but it just
keeps getting better and better. By finish it leaves me wanting
more and I can't wait for my next bowl.
Medium strength flake of selected grades
of Lemon and Bronze Virginias. One of Dunhill`s most expert blends
of highest quality.

Brigham Natural Cavendish
Ready Rubbed : I like this one now. This one has a very sweet
musty smell to it even though it is a non aromatic. When I first
smoked it I thought I would not buy it again because of the sweetness
but over the past couple of weeks I get an urge to smoke it every
so often and will buy more. It smokes well and you get the sweetness
all the way through. The room aroma is very nice and reminds me
of my Grandfather.
Natural Cavendish is a mild and pleasantly
sweet Cavendish. This is a favorite of many Cavendish lovers who
prefer a non-aromatic blend.

Three Nuns Ready Rubbed
: I like this one as well it tastes a bit like St. Bruno
to me and smells a bit like it in the package. The tobacco is a
finer cut and bit more moist. It has some bite but nothing serious.
I find this one smokes extra slow as it is very moist. The room
aroma is very nice as well.
A blend of dark fired and sun cured tobaccos
mixed with the finest Brazilian Lights to produce the unique flavor
and mellow smoking characteristics for which Three Nuns is famous.

| Brigham Mark Twain Ready
Rubbed : I like this one quite a bit it has a slightly sweet
and a bit of maple smell to it. As it is hard to find out which
tobacco's they put in this blend I am guessing that there is some
of the Cavendish in it. Probably Black Cavendish as there are some
very large flakes of very black tobacco. It is not as sweet as the
natural cavendish though and that's ok. The room aroma is very satisfying
and lightly sweet musty. I don't smoke the cavendish blends much
but this is the one of choice
when I do

| Brigham Morning Pleasure
Ready Rubbed: I like this one as well even though It has
no surprises . It is not as sweet as the other two Brigham's I have
tried and has a nice aroma in the pouch. Plain and simple, a keeper
I believe.
Kentucky grown burley is considered to be
some of the finest in the world. This is the main element in this
blend. We have added only 15% of our Black Cavendish to create a
medium to slow burning tobacco, with a mildness and sweet aroma
that is pleasing to all.

| McClelland Bulk No.5110
Dark English Full: I opened this one to
smell maybe a cedar and ash smell very different to anything I have
experienced yet. It is almost black with some light tobacco mixed
in and coarsely
cut. It is different but I like it and will keep some around. I
am liking the English
blends more every day.
Sun Cured Virginia, Latakia and Oriental.

Bulk No.2015 Virginia Flake: I opened this
one to smell (this might sound funny) a smell I haven't smelled
since I was a young boy but it smells a bit like ketchup potato
chips (I had the munchies allot back then). Dam It tastes like ketchup
chips on first light as well. It's a bit peppery and can bite. It
is ketchup as far
as I got and I can not finish the bowl . I do not like this one
and will not smoke or buy it again. I think my pipe might have some
permanent damage as well. This is my first 1 pipe
tobacco.
Flue cured broken flake. This tobacco is
made from rich, orange and Red Virginias to which enough St. James
Perique has been added to create a refreshing smoke.

| GAWITH,
HOGGARTH & CO Brown Flake: This is a
nice one. 6 inch leather belts that rub out very easily. In the
package it has a bit of an perfume
smell I also smell the english blends. It has a bit of a perfume
taste to it as well that continues through the hole bowl. The virginias
are nice I am enjoying trying them. They say it is a medium strength
but I would place it up a bit higher. Pleasant
room aroma too. All in all a fine smoke and I will buy this one
again as well.
As with Bright CR Flake, this is another
tobacco that devises its flavor
simply from the choice of leaf in the blend, and has no additional
casings or flavors
to enhance the smoke. (u/s - stands for unscented) 83.5% Blended
virginias are combined with a relatively high (for English Blends
at any rate) proportion of Malawi Burley, 12.5%, to give flavor
and depth to the smoke, and the addition of just 4% Malawi dark
fired leaf is sufficient to combat the typical sharpness of the
virginia leaf resulting in a rounded medium strength smoke.

University Flake: I like this one as well.
Again this one is in the shape of 4 inch leather belts and takes
a bit of work to rub it out. The smell in the tin is a slight berry
but reminds me of the DLF a bit. They say it is a aromatic but I
don't see that. It packs well, stays lit and burns slow and that's
good because it burn hot as well. Great flavor
all the way through. I will keep it around. This one also gives
me hick ups at times and I believe it is because of the nicotine
content as in the Erimore Flake.

Odyssey: I like this one way
too much. When
I opened the tin I got the smell of the Latakia but something else
in the scent as well that I don't know what. It makes my saliva
glands run when I smell it. Smoking it is even better than smelling
it. I think it has some addictive drug in it because I can't get
enough of it. It burns and smokes perfect right from the tin and
the room aroma is becoming one of my favorites for sure. If you
like Latakia's then this is a must have. I have already ordered
more of this one. It should get a 5 pipe rateing but my rating only
goes up to 4.
Odyssey is huge! The biggest of the Pease
blends. It's loaded with Latakia and harmonized by exotic Orientals.
Wonderful red and jet-black stoved Virginias provide a perfect counterpoint.

Gawith Squadron
Leader: I like this one
too. When I opened
the tin I got the smell of the Latakia's but also the Virginia's
are prevalent as well. I have to cut this one up a bit and leave
it sit for about 20 minutes to get a good pack and burn. It burns
well after that with huge clouds of satisfiying smoke. The room
aroma is pure English blend. It gets rave reviews on the Tobacco
Reviews page. I will ordered more of this one as the English blends
are my favorites now.
This tobacco epitomises the traditional
English tobacco. Blended dark and bright Virginias, together with
Latakia and Turkish leaf results in a perfect, medium bodied product
which gives a rich slow burning smoke.

Pease Renaissance: I like this one
too. When
I opened the tin I got the smell of the Latakia's but also the Virginia's
as well. It reminds me a bit of the Squadron Leader but the Turkish
has been replace by Orientals and is cut slightly smaller no need
to cut it up. It packs and smokes perfect right from the tin. It
is a great smoke and does not replace the Squadron Leader so I will
have to keep both around I think.
Renaissance is a classic medium English
mixture, rich in oriental tobaccos, a good measure of Cyprian and
Syrian Latakias, and just enough golden, red and matured Virginias
to provide substance to the smoke. The nutty flavors of the oriental
tobaccos are the main focus, with the Latakias providing an almost
leathery spiciness. These flavors are perfectly balanced by the
subtle sweetness of the Virginas to complete this elegant mixture.

Pease Robusto: I like this one
too. When I opened
the tin I got the smell of the Virginia's but also the slighter
Latakia's and the Cigar leaf. It packs and smokes perfect right
from the tin as well. It is a great smoke the virginias are prevalent
and thick clouds from it. I get a sweet feel not taste left on the
end of my tongue from it. Nice and different. I use it as a mix
some times with some of the other baccys for flavor and burn quality.
It is not an all day smoke for me but when I get the urge for it,
it satisfies completely. I will have to keep it around as well.
I am starting to wonder if Greg makes a baccy I don't like.
The chocolate brown wrapper leaf would make
an overly bold statement if blended with a heavy hand, but if just
the right amount is used, it provides an alluring spice, a suggestion
of the richness of a great cigar, and a creamy texture to the smoke.
A little Cyprian Latakia rounds out the flavors, and smoothes the
edges just enough. Ripe, red Virginia leaf provides s a modest sweetness
while giving a backbone to the body. A variety of oriental tobaccos
fill in the gaps. Robusto is complex, full flavored and spicy, yet
very gentle on the tongue. It's perfect with the afternoon coffee,
as a delicious finish to a wonderful meal, or as a stout companion
throughout the day.

St. Bruno Flake
: I like this one more
than the ready rub but it is hard to find in Canada and a bit pricey.
The smell in the package
is the same as the ready rub but a little more intence (slightly
fermented dry red wine) is what I get. It has a bit of a tangy taste
and a great old time room aroma. It has quite a bit of nicotine
punch. Some say you should dedicate a pipe for this one as I have.
This is a Blend of Virginia and other selected
tobaccos. Slow burning and cool with a pleasant aroma.

McClelland
Frog Morton : I like this one allot the
tobacco is dark black, with a small percentage of lighter brown
flecks. As the Latakia
blends are becoming my favorites and my staple this one lives up
to it's hype. It burns very cool and is smooth
and mild. It is a bit moist but I find it smokes well for
me right out of the tin. I don't
get any hint of the McClelland's Stench about this blend
and I am two for
three on this as
their 5110 is another of my favorites. Some say it is an aromatic
but I don't get it. I will buy this one again and keep an open tin.
Handblended, premium pressed Virginia Flake
tobaccos. A fine vintage, naturally sweet, in limited quantity,
air cured
Virginia and Latakia.
